"I have discovered new ways to engage with baby" |
Making the dvds
Filming the dvds with Keir was an absolute pleasure. Keir is a wonderful baby – so calm, centred and he embraces Yoga for Baby with enthusiasm.
Filming was not without its hiccoughs however and provided a steep learning curve for me. Obviously we couldn’t film all the sequences in one day or indeed in any order. We had to work at the pace of baby – i.e. not just after a feed, in between sleeps, when Keir was in the mood and not hungry. We had to find time when Keir and his mummy Anna, Dave the film maker and myself were all available within these times, as well as availability of the venue which my friend Maggie offered for our use.
Other challenges were power cuts, overhead jets flying over the Borders countryside and extreme weather over the two weeks filming in March 2007. This ranged from brilliant warm sunshine, high winds, thunder and lightning to snow storms.
As I had taken the decision to work in as natural environment as possible I didn’t use excessive film lighting as I felt it may cause distress to Keir. This has resulted in slight variations in the lighting conditions of the dvds depending on weather conditions whilst filming. So, ‘please do not adjust your set’.
The dvds are accessible and user friendly, showing how mummy and her baby can practise within their own living room space. All that is needed is - some time, space, a Yoga mat for mummy and a blanket for baby, loose comfortable clothing, bare feet and a willingness to learn.
Despite all of the challenges we encountered, the whole process has certainly been worth it to capture time and beautiful moments with Kier on film. It also provided us with the opportunity to experience patience, be in the moment, appreciate a good sense of humour and exercise a ‘go with the flow’ attitude.
Please Note: This photograph was taken by Avril in Pokhara, Nepal in 1989 when she stayed with this family. The baby shares the same birthday as Avril..
